THE DEVIL'S WORK AND TEMPTATION
I. THE DEVIL'S WORK
A. TO STEAL, KILL, AND DESTROY John 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
(John 10:10)
- Destroy lives
- Destroy families
- Destroy churches and ministries
B. 3 APPEALS (1 John 2: 15-17, Gen. 3).
- Desires of the flesh
- Desires of the eyes
- Pride of life
II. TEMPTATION WORKS THROUGH
A. DISCONTENTMENT
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
(1 Timothy 6:6)
B. DESIRES OF THE FLESH
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
(1 John 2:15-16)
C. ENVY OF SINNERS
A Psalm of David. Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
(Psalms 37:1)
D. IGNORANCE
Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
(2 Corinthians 2:11)
When a person is tempted and responds to the devil, he doubts the faithfulness of the Scriptures.
When a person relies on his feelings and not the word of God, he follows his feelings because feelings seem stronger than the truth when you do not believe the truth.
He may even find faults with others to justify his or her sinful action and desires.
