OBEDIENT UNTO DEATH

Philippians 2: 1-11
I. THE NEEDS OF OBEDIENT CHRISTIAN
A. Consolation in Christ (2 Cor. 1: 3- 5).
B. Comfort of Love (John 15:9-12).
C. Fellowship of the Spirit (Gal. 5: 16; Eph. 4:30).
D. Bowels and Mercies (James 5: 11)
II. THE OBLIGATIONS OF OBEDIENT CHRISTIAN
A. Things to fulfill that brings joy
1. Be likeminded (Romans 8: 5)
2. Have the same love (John 15: 12)
3. Be in harmony (Psa. 133:1)
4. Be of one mind (Cooperation)
· Do you do things that bring harmony and cooperation?
B. Things not to be done
1. Strife – If there is a way of doing things, avoid strife.
2. Vain glory – check your motive, is it for God’s glory?
C. Things to be done
1. Lowliness – Be humble always
2. Esteem others better than themselves
· Learn to be appreciative
· Seek to encourage
· Do not exalt self or put down others.
· Don’t have a better-than-thou attitude.
D. Things to look
1. Not on his own – It is natural for people to be concerned of his own things.
2. On the things of others – But learn to be concerned of the things of others.
· Be a good steward of the things of others.
· Learn to value others
· Respect their belongings and rights.
· When we do things, always consider what is good for others.
III. THE MODEL OF OBEDIENT CHRISTIAN
A. Christ the model of every Christian
1. Be Christlike in our thinking.
B. Christ an example of humility
1. Being in the form of God, thought robbery to be equal with God.
2. Made himself of no reputation
3. Took upon him the form of a servant
4. Was made in the likeness of men
· It is a common attitude with men to put down others to lift selves.
· We often want people to speak well of us, we don’t want to criticisms.
· We want to have good reputation.
· Jesus made himself without reputation.
· What is important is serving others.
· There is no need to speak well of how good we are.
· What is important is if we are willing to serve others.
· Don’t get discourage when people speak bad of you... Mat. 5: 11.
· But be willing to serve God and others.
· The ministry is not about bragging that we were able to start, but how we endure... like race.
C. Christ an example of obedience.
1. He humbled himself
2. Obedient unto death, the death of the cross.
· Christ showed us an example of submission.
· Christ was willing to obey even unto death.
· Humility is important in submission.
· Are you being humble and obedient?
D. Christ is God’s example of exaltation.
1. God also has highly exalted him.
2. Given him a name which is above every name.
3. Every Knee should bow
a. Things in heaven
b. Things in earth
c. Things under the earth
4. Every tongue should confess
a) Jesus Christ is Lord
b) To the glory of the Father
CONCLUSION:
· Are you walking right with God?
· Do you experience God’s comfort in times of difficulties?
· Are you humble enough not to speak of how good you are, but to speak of God’s goodness, mercy and love?
· Do you encourage others?
· Are you being submissive to God and to those He placed over you to guide and protect you?
· Will you be found serving God even until death?
